Challenge Day

High school. What a fucked up time. Stuck on a campus with, in my case, about 3,200 of your peers, trying not to get noticed by the wrong people while trying to get noticed by the right people while trying to appear as if you don't care. It feels like such a long time ago, but graduation was in '96. I'm so past that now, right? Then how come reading essays like Challenge Day (PDF) by Ana Bolling over at WholeEarth.com can still make me well up?

  1. High school was a fucked up time, one of the exact reasons I distanced myself from many of it’s more superfluous aspects.

I’m glad I never had to deal with anything as serious as what some of those students are going through though. And it does make me think about what would have happened if “Challenge Day” had come to my school.

Being the student that I was I probably would have skipped out on it. Heh.

(Found ya via GeoURL – neat knowing someone’s only a mile from me that blogs.)
